OM TEATER MØN
THE PLACE
Teater Møn was founded in 2019 by Peter Kirk and Tilde Knudsen from Asterions Hus, a professional theatre company established in 2003.
The former Magleby Central School on Eastern Møn has undergone a transformation from an old school into a theatre with numerous rooms, set in the beautiful landscape near Møns Klint, Høje Møn and with views across the island’s southern coastline.
The old gym hall has been painted black and now functions as a black-box theatre space, still carrying the wall bars and rings from its school days. The woodworking room has been newly restored and fitted with mirror walls, becoming a beautiful dance studio. The classrooms, with their high ceilings, are ideal for workshops and seminars. There are bedrooms, a banquet hall, a school kitchen, outdoor stages — and generally space upon space, with doors that open to all kinds of activities.
Since then, Teater Møn has expanded organically. In 2020, Peter and Tilde bought an abandoned poultry farm. First came the clearing, then the rescue of the buildings — and gradually the quirky place started to become usable. It quickly earned the name Teater Høne, or simply Hønen (“The Hen”).
In 2021, The Dragon House was added. This very distinctive house sits next to the school with almost direct access to the large garden belonging to the old school — formerly Magleby Stadium. The garden transforms into stages and places, small squares and hidden corners.
In 2022, Teater Møn entered a lease with Sukkerfabrikken, gaining access to the well-functioning theatre hall and the extraordinary Bøhmiske Hal — 900 square metres in size. Teater Møn is not afraid of square metres.
Most recently, the neighbouring house to Teater Høne has joined the family. It is yet another severely neglected building with holes in the roof and collapsed extensions. It will be given a new chance at life, and for now it has been named Kyllingen (“The Chicken”).

CONTENT
Teater Møn is a place for public performances and events for both local residents and visitors. It is a refuge and a space for artists and others with projects that require calm and immersion. Here there is room for performances, concerts, workshops, camps, dinners, life events and overnight stays. It is a place where time stands still. Teater Møn is a space for art and curiosity.
We are developing a seasonal rhythm in which the most active and outward-facing period takes place during the summer. During this time, Asterions Hus performances will be presented, and we also invite audiences into special formats where food and theatre are almost always part of the experience. We will do our best to communicate these events, but follow us on social media or subscribe to our newsletter for updates.
In addition, we offer more exclusive formats, where we create tailored programmes for smaller groups, including accommodation, meals, performances and, if relevant, workshops. We can host more than 50 overnight guests.
ABOUT THE BOHEMIAN CRYSTAL WASHERS
In the summer of 2023, a small group of volunteers gathered around Teater Møn, and during the events of that summer something quite magical happened. In a remarkably short time, this group of volunteers created a strong community, grew in number and became an invaluable support in the development of Teater Møn.
The Bohemian Crystal Washers are open to new members, so if you are curious, feel free to send us an email.

ABOUT TILDE AND PETER
We met around the turn of the millennium and founded Teater Asterions Hus in 2003, where we have produced and toured ever since. We have created at least one new performance every year and continue to tour both nationally and internationally – often in several different languages. Over the years, this has amounted to an average of more than a hundred performances annually, and around ten of our productions could be performed tomorrow if needed.
See more about Asterions Hus on the website here.
We also created Teaterøen on the tip of Refshaleøen in Copenhagen. Teaterøen is an open platform for performing arts, and although we succeeded in becoming part of the Lille Storbyteater funding scheme with a modest four-year grant, it was Møn that pulled us, and we moved Asterions Hus to Møn in 2019.
Teaterøen is now in transition and has been passed on to, among others, Trevor Davis, who will continue parts of the site as a residency centre, focusing on the development of art within the urban landscape. Tilde and Peter still run Magneten at Teaterøen, which means we still have one foot in the city.

THE HEART
Our artistic project is in constant evolution, carried by curiosity and a desire to explore the unknown and the untested.
We are especially known for our highly physical and experimental interpretations of great stories. We walk our own paths with Homer’s Iliad, Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet and Macbeth. In our productions, the great narrative meets our personal interpretation in a dramatic encounter.
We love pathos as much as humour. We love quirky patina and raw poetry. Over the years we have developed our own unique, expressive language, rooted in appetite, joy and the paradoxes of life. We strive tirelessly to let the performance balance on the edge between the grotesque and the realistic, the confusing and the accessible, the comic and the tragic. The performances do not teach, preach or explain – they rather confuse, provoke and suggest.
Since 2005, Asterions Hus has received support from the Danish Arts Foundation, a number of private foundations and the EU.
Teater Møn, however, is run entirely privately without subsidies; its economy comes solely from rentals and events.
